JOIN US FOR 'STILL: AN OKANAGAN NOVEL AND THE COMMUNITY BEHIND IT'

Our upcoming PREDTalk features UBC Okanagan professor and esteemed author Joanna Cockerline.

Join us for an engaging and inspiring afternoon where Joanna will read a short selection from her powerful novel, Still. Shifting the lens onto pressing social issues impacting our local region, this presentation will look deeply into a story of friendship, community, resilience, and hope.
Still follows a woman’s search for her missing friend, and a search for home. Exploring themes of housing insecurity, social isolation, and community support, the session will transcend fiction and discuss tangible ways we can make a meaningful difference in our communities. Joanna will also share insights from her work with JustUs Street Outreach, a vital local organization she co-founded.
WHAT WILL YOU DISCOVER?
An Esteemed Literary Reading: Enjoy an exclusive reading from a celebrated piece of contemporary Canadian fiction. Still was proudly longlisted for Canada’s largest literary prize, the Giller Prize, and named to the Fall 2025 Reading List by CBC.
Stories of Social Advocacy: Discover how contemporary fiction can shed light on important social struggles and foster meaningful conversations.
The Power of Community Action: Learn directly about grassroots changes and outreach models designed to support vulnerable members of our community.
The session will be followed by a Q and A session to ensure all your questions are answered.
